Custom Dental Veneers in San Jose

A dental veneer is a porcelain shell that dental professionals can customize to enhance the size, shape and shade of a tooth. Dental veneers are a commonly offered dental restoration at Dennis Baik, DDS.

If you have chipped, discolored or crooked teeth and want to change them, then dental veneers may be the solution you are looking for. Consisting of a thin porcelain shell, dental veneers can blend in with your surrounding teeth for a uniform appearance. While altering the size, shape and shade of your teeth, we can also prevent further damage to the surface of the tooth.

Far too often, people will try to avoid seeking professional dental treatment and live with damaged or crooked teeth. By avoiding treatment, people are only increasing the chance of pain or infection. A chipped tooth can risk exposing the inside of the tooth, causing pain when eating, drinking or biting down on something.

By investing in a dental veneer treatment, we can help you change the size, shape and shade of your teeth for your specific needs.

What are Veneers?

Veneers, also known as “instant orthodontics,” are thin shells of composite resin or porcelain glued to front teeth to improve their color, size, and shape. Patients usually favor dental veneers over other cosmetic dentistry procedures due to their smooth, lifelike appearance. Because of their natural look and similar light-reflecting properties to real enamel, they appear remarkably realistic.

What Do Dental Veneers Do?

We can accomplish a variety of things using dental veneers. By placing veneers on top of the teeth, we can close gaps, make teeth even in length, cover dark stains and create a uniform looking smile. In this way, veneers can create a smile that rivals the most famous Hollywood stars. The nice thing is that you do not have to be famous to improve your smile. You simply need to call (408) 226-5560 and schedule an appointment to see Dr. Baik.

We also use dental veneers for restorations. When teeth become cracked, chipped or broken, a veneer can restore the tooth to its full functionality. As long as the tooth structure is intact, we can restore the appearance of a tooth while making it possible to eat and speak without feeling any discomfort.

Placing Dental Veneers

When patients visit our Dennis Baik, DDS offices, we will take an impression of their teeth to create the veneers in a lab. The veneers will match the size, shape, and color of your teeth, taking a week or more to create.

In order to place dental veneers, we will first prepare your tooth by removing a portion of the enamel. This helps the veneer lay flat and in line with your gum tissue. After preparing the tooth, we will secure a temporary veneer using removable glue. While wearing a temporary veneer, it is important to brush your teeth gently and avoid eating any foods that may push it out of place. Since it is secured by removable glue, it can be moved fairly easily.

When your permanent veneers are ready, you will come back into our Dennis Baik, DDS offices so that we can remove the temporary and ensure that the new veneer is a perfect fit. It is typically attached using a water based solution to see how it looks. If any adjustments need to be made, it will be done at this time. Otherwise, the tooth will be cleaned, and the dental veneer will be bonded to the tooth. Patients will enjoy how the results look. They are instant, and you can start flashing your smile right away.

After the Dental Veneer Procedure

Your teeth will typically be sore for a few days after the preparation phase and after placing the permanent veneers. During this time, you can take pain medication to help you stay comfortable. Patients can also benefit from getting rest and using a cold compress to reduce any swelling. We recommend that patients watch what they eat for a few days and stick with foods that are soft. While there is a short recovery time when getting veneers, the procedure is entirely worth it because in the end, you will have a beautiful smile.

Benefits of Dental Veneers

In addition to improving the appearance of your teeth, dental veneers help improve the overall look of your smile. Some benefits of dental veneers are listed below:

  • Natural-looking – Composite and porcelain veneers look similar to your healthy natural teeth.
  • Stain-resistant – The smooth surfaces of porcelain veneers, in particular, help prevent stains from sticking around.
  • Whiter teeth – Veneers make your front teeth look lighter by covering any discoloration.
  • Durable – Tooth veneers are more resilient to deterioration than natural teeth. If properly cared for, they can endure ten to fifteen years.
  • Easy maintenance – You can maintain your new veneers the same way you do with your natural teeth.
  • Correct dental imperfections – Cosmetic veneer therapy can help correct minor dental problems, such as gaps between teeth and chipped or cracked teeth.

As with most cosmetic procedures, there can be some discomfort associated with getting dental veneers installed. This is to be expected, however, we do our best to keep patients comfortable during the procedure so that you will not experience any pain while the veneers are being placed or your teeth are being prepared. The process can take several weeks so there will be a period where you need to be careful about what you eat and what activities you engage in. In other words, do not play football after getting temporary veneers placed onto your teeth. You should schedule the procedure for a time where you will be close to home and able to take it easy.
